A Note from Salil Jain
This is a libertarian/classical liberal publication, one among an endangered species in India. We dream to create change by revitalising the rich liberal intellectual tradition of the country. We take pride in our irreverence and disdain for the mainstream, presenting you with free and open thought in an age where true intellectual exercise is looked upon with contempt. Do subscribe to receive updates on articles, check out the web-series I created and the podcast I host, as well as following us on social media. Thank you for visiting us, we hope to see you again soon!
Salil Jain “the Candid Contrarian”
Hey, I’m Salil, and you’ve found the Candid Contrarian!
Who am I, why am I candid, what’s so contrarian about me, and why should you care about anything I have to say?
Honest answer? I’m just a student living in Mumbai, who reads and thinks, a lot. I write for myself, first and foremost and invite you to share the ride with me, if you’re as tired as I am of seeing, boring and unintellectual drivel lauded as thinking in today’s world. I (attempt to) write about economics, politics and philosophy, from a (hopefully) fresh perspective, but have zero “official” expertise in any of the subjects I’m writing about (yet!). However the one thing you can expect from me, is that I pride myself on thinking differently, being direct and not treating my audience like they’re stupid, but instead with respect for their intellect and ability to understand new ideas. You will probably be able to find my reflections on life-changing books, ideas, and general commentary on the state of the world.
If you find something you like, stick around, if not, we hope you visit again soon!
Signing off for now,
Salil Jain
